Technology Enabling Better Urban Forest Management

We are proud to share that ORNET Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has successfully executed Ludhiana’s first city-level Tree Census—a pioneering initiative for Punjab.

Using GIS and GPS mapping, geo-tagged photographs and a structured digital database, every surveyed tree has been transformed into a traceable environmental asset. This technology-driven approach provides reliable information on tree location, species, health, heritage value and surrounding conditions.

The database will help the Municipal Corporation monitor tree health, protect indigenous and heritage species, identify vulnerable trees, prevent unauthorised cutting, plan plantations and incorporate green-cover considerations into infrastructure development.

As cities face rising temperatures, air pollution, biodiversity loss and rapid urbanisation, scientific tree data becomes essential for climate resilience, carbon management and sustainable urban planning.

A Tree Census is not merely about counting trees—it is about understanding, protecting and managing a city’s living green infrastructure.
